AMERICAN IDOL INSANITY

The American Idol dream ended last night for LACEY BROWN.  Lacey wound up in the bottom three during last night's results show, along with TIM URBAN and PAIGE MILES, and ultimately got the boot.  However, at the top of the show, judge SIMON COWELL explained that the judges' save is back in play this season, up to the Top Five round. If all judges agree that a contestant shouldn't go home, they can override the public's vote just one time this season to save an Idol hopeful from the chopping block.  Paige performed the BRANDI CARLILE song "The Story" in an effort to get the judges to save her, but unfortunately, it didn't do the trick.  Tim and Paige will be back next week.

Also at the beginning of Wednesday night's show, Simon took host RYAN SEACREST to task for crossing the line on Tuesday night's show and getting up in his face about one of Simon's judgment calls.

As always, there was a lot more going on during last night's show than just the eliminations.  American Idol champ DAVID COOK opened the show with a cover of THE ROLLING STONES' "Jumpin' Jack Flash" in recognition of Stones week on the show. David also gave an update on his work with the United Nations Foundation for the Idol Gives Back campaign. ORIANTHI was on hand to sing her hit "According to You" and talk about playing with Idol winner CARRIE UNDERWOOD on the Grammy awards, as well as her work on MICHAEL JACKSON's This Is It movie. KE$HA also brought her brash style to the stage for a performance of "Blah Blah Blah."

American Idol returns Tuesday night at 8:00 ET on Fox as the Top 11 take the stage to sing for their survival on a "teen idols"-themed show.  The results show will air Wednesday, March 24th at 8:00 p.m.
